Re-encounters
Re-encounters provide information about the migration routes, speed of migration and longevity of birds. Included in the PDF files linked below are significant re-encounters of birds banded during CBBS projects and re-encountered elsewhere or banded elsewhere and re-encountered during CBBS projects.
The choice of which re-encounters to include under Significant Re-encounters is somewhat arbitrary. Species for which experience many re-encounters, typically summer residents at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary (e.g. Yellow Warbler, House Wren) or winter residents at our Central American project sites are not generally included unless inferred age is ≥5 years. Other species re-encountered more infrequently and for which longevity data is lacking may be included even if inferred age is <5 years.
The four PDFs linked below document year-to-year re-encounters of birds banded at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Northern Saw-whet Owl re-encounters at the DeWit ranch, Neotropical migrants banded at Las Caletas in Costa Rica, resident birds banded at Las Caletasin in Costa Rican, Neotropical migrants banded in Belize, and Significant Re-encounters from all Calgary Bird Banding Society projects.
